Two freshmen scored and the defense didn't allow a single shot on goal as Oklahoma women's soccer beat Oklahoma State 2-0 at Neal Patterson Stadium on Aug. 20, giving the Sooners their first victory in Stillwater in a decade.
As we previewed earlier this week, OU hadn't won in Stillwater since 2016. That drought ended emphatically.
Kate McCallister broke through in the 30th minute. Elle Canty gathered a long ball that bounced wide, crossed it into the box, and McCallister headed it off the goalkeeper's hands and over the line. Kennedy Kaiser doubled the lead in the 69th minute, slotting home a cross from Kayla Keefer, with Lexi Dendis also credited with an assist.
The win pushed OU to 3-0 and marked the first time the program has opened a season with three consecutive shutouts since 2009, according to OU's official game recap. Oklahoma State dropped to 1-1-1.
Defense dominates
Goalkeeper Callie Sullivan earned her second straight clean sheet, though she was barely tested. The Cowgirls failed to put a single shot on frame all night. Sullivan, defender Paige Califf, Dendis and Ally Laccinole each logged the full 90 minutes.
OSU entered the match with a 17-3-2 all-time home record at Neal Patterson Stadium, per The O'Colly. The only previous Sooner wins there came in 2005, 2015 and 2016.
Streak snapped
The result also marked the first time OU has won consecutive games against OSU since 2016, following last season's 4-1 victory in Norman. The Cowgirls still lead the all-time series 32-12-5.
OU put four shots on goal before McCallister's opener. Keefer sent a pair of shots on goal that were saved before setting up Kaiser's insurance goal later in the second half.
