Norman drivers who use Flowbird for city parking payments will need to switch to ParkMobile or another payment method starting Sunday, Nov. 1.
The City of Norman is replacing Flowbird with ParkMobile for mobile parking payments at all city-operated facilities and spaces, according to a city announcement. Flowbird will no longer work for Norman parking payments starting Nov. 1.
Drivers using city-operated paid parking are encouraged to download ParkMobile before Nov. 1 if they plan to pay through an app.
The city's announcement addressed mobile parking payments. The city's parking information page still describes the physical pay station kiosks as Flowbird/Parkeon equipment.
Drivers who don't use a mobile app can still pay at pay stations with coins or credit cards. They can also text "PARK" to 77223 to receive a link to an online payment system.
The ParkMobile app lets users save payment information and license plate data, set reminders before time expires and add time without returning to the pay station. It accepts debit cards, credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay.
Norman's paid parking uses a "pay by plate" and "pay by space" system, meaning drivers enter their license plate number at the pay station or in the app. No receipt or validation ticket is needed. Drivers who need a receipt for reimbursement can email [email protected].
The city's paid parking areas include the East Gray Street lot, the Asp Avenue lot and Campus Corner on-street spaces. Rates run $0.50 per hour at the lots and $1.00 per hour at Campus Corner. The Asp Avenue lot enforces a two-hour maximum between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The East Gray Street lot allows up to 10 hours per day. Payment is not required on Sundays or city-observed holidays unless marked otherwise.
Electric and hybrid vehicles parked in EV charging spaces are exempt from parking fees as long as they are actively charging, according to the city.
Norman residents and University of Oklahoma students who park downtown or near campus should download ParkMobile before Nov. 1.
