Two people died in separate traffic collisions in Norman on Tuesday, Sept. 29, about three hours apart.

The Norman Police Department responded to the first crash at approximately 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of 24th Ave SW and State Highway 9, according to a city press release. The collision involved multiple vehicles. Three people were taken to local hospitals, and one later died.

The second crash happened at approximately 7:36 p.m. in the 3600 block of Cedar Lane. One person died at the scene. One was transported to a hospital, and a third person self-transported with injuries.

The city described the two crashes as unrelated.

Both collisions remain under investigation by the Norman/OU Police Department Collision Investigation and Reconstruction Team (CIRT), a specialized unit that handles crash investigation and reconstruction.

The city did not identify the victims or describe what caused either crash. Both investigations are ongoing.
