OU women's basketball head coach Jennie Baranczyk hired former WNBA head coach Latricia Trammell as associate head coach, the university announced Wednesday, Sept. 30.

The hire is pending approval from OU's Board of Regents.

Trammell, a Seminole, Oklahoma, native, returns to her home state after nearly a decade coaching in the WNBA. She spent the 2026 season as an assistant with the Chicago Sky.

"I'm 100% committed to helping us reach the highest of heights in 2026-27 and beyond," Trammell said in the university's announcement. "I'm excited to bring my experience from the WNBA and contribute in any way I'm asked to."

Trammell became a WNBA head coach in 2023 with the Dallas Wings. She led Dallas to 22 wins that season, the most for the franchise since it moved to the city in 2016, and a second-place finish in the Western Conference. The Wings reached the WNBA semifinals, and Trammell finished as runner-up for WNBA Coach of the Year.

Under her watch in Dallas, Satou Sabally earned All-WNBA First Team honors and Most Improved Player, while Arike Ogunbowale was selected to the WNBA All-Star Game.

Before Dallas, Trammell spent four seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks from 2019 to 2022. Four Sparks players earned WNBA All-Defensive Team honors during that stretch, including 2020 Defensive Player of the Year Candace Parker. Los Angeles made two playoff appearances.

She returned to the Sparks in 2025 as a special assistant to head coach Lynne Roberts. The Sparks went 15-9 over their final 24 games that season.

Before the WNBA, Trammell built her résumé in the college ranks. She led Oklahoma City University (OCU) to back-to-back NAIA national championships in 2014 and 2015, compiling an 85-10 record in three seasons as head coach. She entered the WNBA in 2017 as an assistant with the San Antonio Stars.

The Sooners have reached back-to-back NCAA Sweet 16s and gone 11-5 in SEC play in each of their first two conference seasons, according to OU athletics.

Trammell will join the staff ahead of Oklahoma's Oct. 25 exhibition against Southern Nazarene at Lloyd Noble Center. The Sooners open the regular season Nov. 2 in Paris against North Carolina, with SEC play beginning Dec. 31 at Ole Miss.
