Oklahoma sophomore offensive lineman Sean Hutton collapsed at practice Wednesday and was transported to a hospital, the OU Daily reported.

Hutton's father, JD Hutton, identified his son as the hospitalized player in an interview with the OU Daily on Wednesday, Oct. 21. An OU spokesperson separately confirmed to the student newspaper that a player had been evaluated on-site by athletic training staff and taken to the hospital for further evaluation. The university did not name the player.

JD Hutton, reached in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, said the collapse followed a non-contact injury. He told the OU Daily it was not the result of a hit and that Sean's mother had called to tell him his son collapsed without providing other details. He said he was still getting information and was not clear on Sean's condition.

Sean Hutton's mother was at the hospital and had spoken with head coach Brent Venables and other coaching staff, JD Hutton said.

He was visiting his other son, James, a student assistant coach at Coe College, when he got the call. "Can't do anything (but) try to wait and see what's going on with my baby boy," he told the OU Daily.

Roundtable Sports article republished by Yahoo reported, citing sources with knowledge of the situation, that Hutton was alert and conscious while being loaded into the ambulance. BroBible reported he was observed overnight at the hospital.

Hutton's path to the Sooners roster makes the news hit close to home. A former preferred walk-on from Lewisville, Texas, he earned an athletic scholarship before the season. He came to Oklahoma alongside his close friend and high school teammate, fellow offensive lineman Michael Fasusi.

JD Hutton told the OU Daily the family grew up dreaming of having their sons play at OU. "Sean dreamed of going there. I dreamed of both my boys going there, but you know, at least Sean. … So he's literally, you know, Sooner born, Sooner bred."

Oklahoma had not publicly announced a diagnosis or issued a further condition update in the reports available Thursday. Oklahoma is scheduled to play at Mississippi State on Saturday, Oct. 24.
