Oklahoma men’s basketball opened official practice for the 2026-27 season Sept. 21. The Sooners' reshaped roster debuts Nov. 2 at Lloyd Noble Center against East Texas A&M.
Head coach Porter Moser returns for his sixth season in Norman with four holdovers, eight transfers and two freshmen. The Sooners went 21-16 overall and 7-11 in SEC play last season, according to Stormin in Norman.
The returning core starts with guard Xzayvier Brown, who averaged 15.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game as a junior. Brown enters the year with 1,576 career points in 104 games, according to OU athletics. During a summer trip to Puerto Rico, he averaged 22.0 points and 6.5 assists over two games.
Forward Derrion Reid, a former five-star recruit who transferred from Alabama, started all 37 games last season and averaged 11.7 points and 4.4 rebounds. Guard Dayton Forsythe is the only Oklahoma native among the Sooners’ scholarship players, and sophomore forward Kai Rogers round out the returning group.
Eight transfers headline the roster changes. Duke Brennan, a 6-foot-10, 250-pound forward from Villanova, averaged 12.4 points and 10.3 rebounds last season while shooting 65.8% from the field. He recorded 14 double-doubles and ranked 11th nationally in rebounding, according to OU athletics.
Brennan has 1,040 career points and 919 career rebounds over 133 games.
"He's one of the best rebounders in the country and a proven winner who plays with tremendous passion and physicality," Moser said in the Aug. 20 announcement of Brennan's signing.
Guard B.J. Edwards arrives from SMU after averaging 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists and an ACC-leading 2.3 steals per game last season, according to OU athletics. He earned two All-ACC Defensive Team selections. Guard Pop Isaacs, who played at Texas A&M last season, shot 40% from three-point range.
Tyler Hendricks, a career 42% three-point shooter from Utah Valley State, and frontcourt additions Khani Rooths (Louisville) and Yaak Yaak (Oregon State) fill out the transfer class. Brennan, Edwards, Isaacs and Hendricks each play as fifth-year seniors under the NCAA's eligibility extension for the 2022 recruiting class.
Freshman guard Quincy Wadley, rated No. 43 overall by 247Sports, is the highest-rated recruit of Moser's tenure at OU, per Stormin in Norman.
Athletic director Roger Denny confirmed Moser's return in March and said the program needed more investment. Denny told The Oklahoman there was "a real need to realign our program to match the expectations that I have for men's basketball at Oklahoma …" as reported by Sooners Wire.
Moser is 95-75 in five seasons at OU but 32-56 in conference play across three Big 12 and two SEC seasons. The Sooners have one NCAA Tournament appearance under his watch, a first-round loss to Connecticut in 2024-25.
The Nov. 2 opener tips off a schedule that includes non-conference games against Purdue and SMU, both NCAA Tournament teams last season. In SEC play, OU faces all 16 league opponents at least once.
