The Norman Public Schools Board of Education upheld the termination of bus driver Azim Litanga following a due process hearing Monday, Oct. 19, the Norman Transcript reported.
The board held a special meeting at 2:30 p.m. for the hearing, with Board President Dawn Brockman convening the proceedings. The meeting agenda called for Dr. Migliorino, the superintendent, or his legal counsel to present the district's case, followed by Litanga or his counsel presenting a defense, with cross-examination of witnesses and closing arguments from both sides.
Litanga had driven school buses for the district for several years before being placed on administrative leave Aug. 20, as the Norman Transcript reported. He was notified of his termination Sept. 2 and requested a due process hearing Sept. 10.
The agenda and reporting reviewed for this article do not identify the reason for his termination.
After the hearing, the board moved into executive session to deliberate on the recommended dismissal, as authorized under Oklahoma's Open Meeting Act. Members then returned to open session and voted to terminate Litanga's employment.
