Live bands will play on front porches across Norman's Miller Historic District on Saturday, Oct. 3, turning the neighborhood into an open-air concert venue.
The free, volunteer-run festival marks the ninth edition of Porch Fest since co-founders Wess McMichael and Sara Kaplan launched it in 2016. The event paused for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic. McMichael owns McMichael Music, a music school in the district. Kaplan is the city's chief business and community relations officer.
Performances take place mainly at houses along Miller Avenue, the OU Daily reported. Streets in the district will be closed for the event, according to the McMichael Music website.
The festival has no corporate sponsors. McMichael described the philosophy in a September 2025 OU Daily interview: "It builds itself. The people that have the porches love it. There's no sponsorship. It's just grassroots, and they help me."
McMichael told the OU Daily in August 2024 that porch hosts decorate their homes and string up lights for the evening. The 2025 edition featured 38 bands across 11 porches. The year before, more than 40 artists played on 13 porches, and the 2023 festival drew about 700 people, according to McMichael.
