Costumed dogs, trick-or-treating kids and painted pumpkins filled Norman's Campus Corner district on Sunday, Oct. 25, as the neighborhood hosted its 15th annual Howl-O-Ween celebration.

The free afternoon event turned the stretch near 434 Buchanan Ave. into a Halloween block party. Children went door to door collecting candy from Campus Corner shops. Others sat at tables painting pumpkins and getting their faces painted. A bracelet-making stand and a photo stand drew families between stops.

Dogs showed up in force. One wore an In-N-Out costume. Another sported a Kansas City Chiefs jersey. One dog perched on a fire hydrant for a photo. A Raising Cane's plush mascot roamed the area. Costume contests were open to kids, adults and dogs, according to a preview published by the OU Daily before the event.

The celebration also served as an adoption drive for 405 Animal Rescue, a Oklahoma City-based nonprofit. Dogs and cats available for adoption were on-site, and attendees stopped to pet and visit with the animals, according to a photo gallery published by the OU Daily. OU Daily photographer Jack Ramon captured the scenes across the afternoon.

The OU Daily's preview listed the event running from 1 to 4 p.m. A separate listing on StreetLegal listed only a 4 p.m. time, and the exact schedule could not be independently confirmed.

No attendance estimate was available in the sources reviewed. The 15th edition landed on the Sunday before Halloween, giving Norman families one more weekend outing before the Oct. 31 holiday.
