The Norman Philharmonic will honor military veterans with a concert on Nov. 8 at McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, 419 S. University Blvd.
The performance, titled "America the Beautiful: Celebrating Our Veterans," begins at 3 p.m. It is the second concert of the orchestra's 16th season, according to the Norman Philharmonic's website.
Dr. Richard Zielinski, the Philharmonic's music and artistic director, leads the orchestra. The season opened Aug. 30 with "Classical Legends: Mozart, Rodrigo, Tate" at the same church. That concert is now listed under past performances on the Philharmonic's site.
The Norman Transcript reported that the concert honors American heroes as part of the Philharmonic's annual Veterans Day tradition. Columnist Doug Hill wrote that every Norman Philharmonic performance "is a tribute to composers living and dead." Each, he wrote, "reflects a place in time and the events that the person who wrote the music was living though."
The concert coincides with Norman’s Veterans Day observances at Reaves Park, where the parade begins at 2 p.m. and the memorial ceremony at 3 p.m.
The Philharmonic is also recruiting community members to sing with its chorus at the Nov. 8 performance. The orchestra's website invites singers to join the Norman Philharmonic Chorus for the concert. Interested singers can complete the form linked on the Philharmonic’s website; organizers will contact them with further information.
Ticket information is available at normanphil.com or by calling the box office at 405-217-2358.
