Victor Martinez, a Norman man, will spend 37 years in prison after a Cleveland County jury convicted him of sexually abusing his daughter.
District Judge Thad Balkman handed down the sentence Sept. 3 in Cleveland County District Court, the Norman Transcript reported. Martinez was convicted of lewd or indecent acts with a child under 12 and forcible sodomy.
Balkman sentenced Martinez to 37 years on the lewd acts charge and 20 years on the forcible sodomy charge. The two sentences will run concurrently, meaning Martinez will serve 37 years total.
Under Oklahoma law, lewd or indecent acts with a child under 12 carry a mandatory minimum of 25 years in prison. The statute also bars probation, suspended sentences and deferred sentences for the offense.
No statement from Martinez or a defense attorney appears in available court records.
Suspected child abuse can be reported to the Oklahoma Department of Human Services.
