Norman residents looking for ways to pitch in on local conservation this fall have seven chances, starting with a watershed cleanup on Sept. 19.

The city's Division of Environmental Resilience and Sustainability (DoERS) announced the lineup on Aug. 27, spanning cleanups, workshops, a 5K run, a pollinator festival and a free electronics recycling day.

"We are looking forward to some great programming for the community this fall," said Michelle Chao, environmental programs supervisor for the city.

The series spans three months.

It opens at Ruby Grant Park, 3110 W. Franklin Rd., with a hands-on watershed cleanup from 9 to 11 a.m. on Sept. 19. Volunteers will help clear debris from creeks and park areas.

Ruby Grant Park hosts the biggest day of the fall schedule on Sunday, Sept. 27. The Monarch Migration 5K and Caterpillar Fun Run starts at 9 a.m., followed by the annual Monarchs in the Park festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festival features native plant sales, monarch tagging, gardening experts, crafts, games and food trucks.

Two October events move to different parks. The Sutton Wilderness Workshop and Cleanup takes place Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Sutton Wilderness Park, 1920 12th Ave. NE. The event offers a tree identification trail walk and tree care tips. On Sunday, Oct. 25, the Lake Thunderbird Workshop and Cleanup runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Lake Thunderbird Boathouse, 1312 Indian Point Rd., where local experts will cover native plants, aquatic bugs and fish.

November wraps the series with two more events. A Colonial Estates Watershed Cleanup takes place Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Colonial Estates Park, 1641 E. Lindsey St. The Fall E-Waste Event follows on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at Westwood Aquatic Center, 1017 Fairway Dr. Residents can drop off old electronics, described by the city as "anything with a cord," for free. No registration is required for the e-waste event.
