The Norman Arts Council wants to build a dedicated Art Center, and it is inviting residents to ask questions before the project moves forward.
The council announced a public Q&A session for Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 6 to 7 p.m. at MAINSITE Contemporary Art, 122 E. Main St. The council says it supports more than 25 arts organizations and is proposing an Art Center as part of Norman Forward 2. Its Q&A announcement does not specify the center’s location, estimated cost, size, funding source or construction timeline, according to the group's website.
The project falls under Norman Forward 2, the website states. The original Norman Forward initiative was a half-cent sales tax that Norman voters approved on Oct. 13, 2015, according to the city of Norman. That measure funded parks, libraries, trails, recreational facilities and other quality-of-life projects across the city over 15 years. The city describes Norman Forward as a citizen-initiated proposal to renovate, expand and construct those projects.
Details about Norman Forward 2, including its funding mechanism, total budget and timeline, have not been publicly released. The proposed Art Center's location, estimated cost and building size also remain unannounced.
The Norman Arts Council, which has supported Norman's creative community since 1976, operates MAINSITE Contemporary Art at 122 E. Main St. The organization said on X that the proposed center would provide arts organizations a permanent home.
The Nov. 3 Q&A is open to the public at MAINSITE Contemporary Art.
