The Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office says it has arrested four people in connection with an Oct. 22 shooting near a Newalla convenience store after witnesses reported gunfire exchanged between two vehicles on Indian Hills Road.

Deputies responded around noon to Indian Hills Road near the Pecan Valley Junction convenience store, according to Fox 25. Witnesses told investigators they saw shots fired between a gray Toyota truck and a gray Honda car.

The sheriff’s release did not identify a motive or report whether anyone was injured.

Jesse Owens was found to have an outstanding warrant and was taken into custody. He faces additional charges tied to the shooting: possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, assault and battery with a deadly weapon, use of a vehicle in the discharge of a weapon and possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia, according to the sheriff's office.

Three other people were arrested on outstanding warrants: Torey Harris, Kenneth Doner II and Brody Williams. Whether any of the three face shooting-related charges has not been confirmed.

Cleveland County Sheriff Darrell Weaver said the midday gunfire put bystanders at serious risk.

"Exchanging gunfire on a public roadway creates a serious and unnecessary risk to innocent motorists and others traveling or conducting business in the area," Weaver said in a statement posted to the sheriff's office Facebook page.

Weaver added that the office would continue pursuing those involved and work to ensure the suspects are held accountable.

Newalla is an unincorporated community in Oklahoma County, east of Norman. The area falls under the sheriff's office jurisdiction rather than a municipal police department.

The Norman Transcript reported the arrests Monday, Oct. 26. Reporter Andrew Frazier covered the story for the Transcript.
