A luxury hotel and private members club backed by baseball Hall of Famer Derek Jeter could break ground on Campus Corner by spring 2027.

ALUM Inc. announced Sept. 1 that it plans to develop a high-end all-suite hotel in Norman's Campus Corner district, the Norman Transcript reported. The company is partnering with Bartizan Capital, a private investment firm. The project carries an estimated price tag of $90 million to $100 million, the Oklahoman reported.

Norman would be ALUM's second location. The company has broken ground on an $88 million project in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, near the University of Alabama.

ALUM CEO David Vialli said Oklahoma ranked in the company's top 10 target markets from the start. He pointed to the Sooners' fan base, growing out-of-state enrollment and OU's move to the Southeastern Conference as demand drivers.

"Our goal is to create a year-round home for the OU family — not just a place to stay, but a place to belong," Vialli said.

The Norman property would include 50 to 75 fully furnished suites ranging from one to three bedrooms. Plans call for a rooftop pool deck with views toward Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium and a roughly 300-person event venue. An all-day ground-floor cafe would be open to the public and students.

Hotel guests would receive access to the private members club. OU alumni, faculty and Norman residents could pay for regular access to the club's lounge, restaurant and event programming.

Jeter serves as a board advisor and investor in ALUM, according to the Oklahoman. Vialli said Jeter has helped open doors with athletes and former players.

The exact site has not been announced. ALUM has completed a pre-application meeting with the Norman Planning Commission and received informal confirmation that the project fits existing Campus Corner zoning, according to Vialli. The company expects to submit formal construction documents to the city within two months.

Dan Schemm, executive director of VisitNorman, said the NOUN Hotel, which opened in 2022 on Campus Corner, has operated at high occupancy and driven up the city's average daily rate. The city has approved an expansion of about 50 rooms to that property.

If city approvals proceed without objection, ALUM targets a spring 2027 groundbreaking.
