The Cleveland County Fair returns to Norman on Sept. 10 with free admission and parking for four days of rides, livestock shows and live music.
The fair runs Sept. 10 through Sept. 13 at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds, 615 E. Robinson St. The Norman Convention & Visitors Bureau announced the schedule in a post written by Madison McCarthy, the bureau's director of marketing and communications. The State Championship Wiener Dog Race closes out the weekend on Sunday.
Opening day Thursday features exhibits in the Main Building, a petting zoo and livestock competitions. Wyatt Cox performs on the Main Stage that evening after an opening flag ceremony. The carnival does not operate Thursday.
The Canadian Rivers Old Iron Club will be on-site all four days with free activities for kids, including a trackless train, hay rides and hands-on demonstrations of old-fashioned farm chores.
Wade Shows opens the carnival midway Sept. 11 with rides, games and fair food available for purchase. Friday night's lineup includes a Baby Crawling Contest, Stick Horse Race, Celebrity Cow Milking Contest and Farm Hand Olympics. Antique tractor pulls, livestock competitions and a set by Etowah Road on the Main Stage round out the evening.
Sept. 12 packs in a Car and Motorcycle Show, powerlifting, arm wrestling, antique tractor pulls and the Oklahoma State Pedal Pull Championship. Brown Note takes the Main Stage that evening.
Sept. 13 closes the fair with the State Championship Wiener Dog Races. The races are free to watch and free to enter. Participants must bring their own dog.
The Kiowa Apache Blackfoot Society Ceremony is scheduled Sunday afternoon. The Jack Pratt Band performs on the Main Stage, and the carnival runs one final day.
Pony rides are available for a fee throughout the fair. Carnival rides, food and some activities carry additional costs.
The fairgrounds have seen recent upgrades. Cleveland County's Infrastructure Committee reported on July 30 that a grant had been awarded for a new electric vehicle charging station at the site, and a bid had been awarded for digital signage along Robinson Street.
