NWS Norman is forecasting possible severe storms across portions of northern and western Oklahoma for Saturday, Sept. 19, evening.

The outlook overlaps with a sold-out OU football game expected to draw more than 80,000 fans to Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman. Large hail and damaging winds are the main hazards with the strongest storms, the agency posted on X on Thursday, Sept. 17.

Norman sits in central Oklahoma, not the northern and western portions named in the NWS post. A forecast graphic attached to the post appeared to include the broader region, but residents should check the NWS Norman forecast page for whether Cleveland County falls within the storm risk zone.

Sold-out stadium, open-air crowd

No. 24 Oklahoma (1-1) hosts New Mexico (2-0) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN2. The sellout extends OU's home streak to 169 consecutive sold-out originally scheduled games, according to OU Athletics.

Stadium gates open at 4:30 p.m. The Allstate Party at the Palace pregame event runs from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the lawn north of the stadium. Both overlap with the NWS storm window of late afternoon and evening.

The stadium seats 80,126. Umbrellas are on the venue's prohibited items list.

Saturday daytime forecast

The NWS 7-day forecast for Norman calls for a high near 99 degrees Saturday. South winds of 9 to 13 mph are expected, with gusts up to 20 mph. The daytime forecast does not reflect the evening storm threat described in the NWS Norman post.
