Oklahoma volleyball erased a 2-1 deficit and beat Western Kentucky 3-2 on Thursday, Sept. 17, inside E.A. Diddle Arena in Bowling Green, Ky.

The Sooners won the match 25-23, 23-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-13 to improve to 6-2 on the season. It was the program's first meeting with Western Kentucky (5-6), according to OU athletics.

Three Sooners finished with at least 14 kills. Juniors Alaleh Tolliver and Mikala Young each posted 16, and junior Carley Butler added a career-high 14 on just two errors for a .500 hitting percentage. Tolliver hit .343 and recorded 11 digs for a double-double. A transfer from Butler University, Tolliver led that program with 382 kills last season before arriving in Norman.

Sophomore setter Avaya Maga posted 52 assists and 11 digs for a double-double. Sophomore Aniya Warren led the defense with 14 digs, and sophomore Alyssa Flack contributed eight kills and a team-high three aces.

Oklahoma took the opening set 25-23 on a Butler kill after WKU pulled within one at 24-23. The Hilltoppers answered by claiming the next two frames, building an 18-10 lead midway through the third set before closing it 25-22 for a 2-1 match advantage.

Facing elimination in the fourth, the Sooners rallied late. Tolliver served consecutive aces and Young added a kill during a five-point burst that pushed OU ahead 24-19. Young finished the set with a kill for a 25-21 win.

The fifth set swung late.

Oklahoma led 12-9 before WKU scored three straight to tie it. Flack answered with a kill to put OU back in front, and a WKU attack error gave the Sooners match point at 14-12. A Hilltopper service error ended it 15-13.

The win gave Oklahoma its third straight victory. The Sooners were scheduled to close non-conference play Friday, Sept. 18, against East Tennessee State at the WKU Invitational.

OU opens its 15-match SEC slate at home against No. 10 Florida on Sunday, Sept. 27, at 1 p.m. Single-match tickets start at $10 plus tax.
