Norman police arrested a man on two burglary counts after he allegedly moved through multiple apartments at a student housing complex near the University of Oklahoma on Sunday, Sept. 27.
A resident at the Calloway House, 333 E. Brooks St., called 911 after waking up to find an unknown person inside their room, according to a Norman Police Department press release. The intruder left that apartment before the resident made the call.
When officers arrived, they learned the individual had entered a second apartment in the complex. Officers entered and cleared that unit, then discovered the person had moved into a third apartment.
Officers made contact with the individual inside the third unit. They identified him as Gavin Vanderven, a resident of that apartment. He was arrested on scene.
Vanderven was booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center on two counts of burglary.
The arrest came six days after a similar incident at the same complex. On Monday, Sept. 21, a resident reported waking to find someone going through drawers inside their apartment. That person fled before police arrived. No arrest was made, and no suspect was identified in that case.
The Norman Police Department's Criminal Investigations Section is working to determine whether the two incidents are connected. The department said additional charges may be requested as the investigation continues.
The Calloway House is an off-campus student apartment complex across the street from the OU Duck Pond and Brandt Park, near the University of Oklahoma campus.
