Farm Girl Fair returns to Norman's Sandy River Ranch Oct. 4

Norman's Farm Girl Fair returns to Sandy River Ranch on Sunday, Oct. 4, bringing dozens of Oklahoma makers and small businesses to the city's west side.

The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the ranch, located at 3500 NW 72nd Ave. Admission is $10 for ages 13 and older. Children 12 and younger get in free. Parking is free.

Pets are not allowed.

The event has been a Norman fall tradition since 2016, when three women organized the first fair at the same ranch. That debut featured a pie baking contest, a petting zoo, hayrides, live music and a photo booth, News9 reported at the time.

The founders drew their inspiration from the county fair in E.B. White's children's book "Charlotte's Web." The emphasis, according to the fair's organizers, was on gathering together, spending time outside and celebrating people who make things by hand.

"Farm Girl Fair was inspired by ladies who wanted to create a moment … a space of time that could take people back to what we all imagine (or hope) life must have been like, somewhere in life's seemingly distant past," Emily Schuermann of Food for a Year, a Norman-based food writer and culinary instructor, said on the fair's website.

This year's vendor booths span pottery, jewelry, art, clothing, vintage finds, florals, home goods, baked goods and permanent jewelry, according to the Norman Convention & Visitors Bureau. Past fairs have also included live music, hayrides, pie contests and family activities alongside the vendor market.

The visitors bureau says admission fees go to the Center for Children & Families in Norman.
