An underground AT&T concrete utility vault pushed upward into the eastbound outside lane of Main Street in Norman, forcing an emergency lane closure that began Friday, Sept. 25.

The closure stretches between Mercedes Drive and Berry Avenue. AT&T and its contractor, Superior Construction, notified the city of the damage and are handling the repair, according to a city of Norman press release.

The rest of Main Street remains open.

Work started at 8 a.m. Friday. The lane is expected to reopen by Friday, Oct. 9, weather permitting.

The city's release did not explain what caused the vault to heave upward. No alternate route was provided.

Drivers using eastbound Main Street between Mercedes and Berry should expect delays through early October.
